Dear Brother

I r'c'd your letter today and was very glad to get it.  I burnt it up as soon as I read it.  You asked me how much money I had.  I haven't any money.  It has taken all I have made for the doctor bill and for my board and boots and oil clothes, and I still owe ten dollars to the doctor.

When I had the flu it cost me $40.00 for doctor bill, the reason it costs so much is because we have to send across the sound for him and it takes a long time to get him.  But if you could spare me enough to get home with I will be very pleased and will pay you back when I get their and make some money.  I am fishing and fish are very scarce now.  It is very cold here, but we haven't had any snow this winter and would surely like to see all of you.  I get some kind of homesick down here.  Well I think I will close for this time hoping to hear from you soon.

From your loving brother,

Elliot

Tell papa hello.

Dearest Brother,

I r'c'd your letter yesterday and was glad to hear from you once again.  I have been feeling very bad for the last week.  I have been to Manteo N.C. on a fishing trip, but only stayed there two days, the wind blew so hard and the tide run so strong we could not handle our net.  Fishing is a tough job, we stay out day and night when it is weather to fish.  We can catch more fish of a night than of days.

I have been to Cal., Jamaica, Cuba, West Indies, Hatie, Fort De France, Pannama, Florida, Gulf of Mexico, Norflolk Va., Baltimore and North Carolina but I would rather be home in Utah than any other place I have ever been, but if I ever get home once more I will never want to travel any more.  I have had some good times in all these foreign countries.  I have had me a girl at every place I went.  I certainly would be glad to see all of you, but I just can't save up the money.  I just can make enough to pay board bill.  I may make a little later on but would be glad to get some from you when you get able.  Well I will close for this time.  I will tell you more when I get home.  Write soon.

Give my love to papa and all,

Elliot

Dear Brother Harold,

I r'c'd your letter today and was pleased to get it.  I guess you are pretty tired of mining as I am of fishing.  I forgot to tell you how much I weighed in my last letter, but I weigh l58 lbs.  When do you think of getting married?  ha ha.  I have been going with a very pretty girl, but she did me a dirty trick last Sunday and I have quit going with her.  We went over to the sea side and she went for a motorcycle ride with another boy.  I come back home with her but I told her I was done going with her any more.

You said I look old.  I guess hard work make me look so.  Ha. ha.  I think of home a many times through the day.  I will be glad to get there.  We haven't had any snow here this winter but it has been a cold one.  I will have my picture taken and send you one before long.  You send me one of yours and papas if you have any taken.  I hear Dan is married.  I think it is about time.  Some of the girls around here get married at the age of thirteen.  We catch lots of man eating sharks in our nets and all other kinds of sea animals also sea turtles that weigh two and three hundred lbs.

I wish you and papa were here to see us fish.  You would enjoy it very much.  It is hard work though.  I have fished a many a days and nights without a bit of sleep and it freezing every drop that flew.  The other day we caught about l000 lbs of fish called spots and could not sell them.  The fish market went busted so we had to let them rot on the beach.  Well I can not think of any thing else to tell you this time so will close for this time.  Write real soon.  Give love to papa and all.

From your loving brother,

Elliot
