Bill Gee (William Marion Gee II) by Barbara Lloyd (wife)
William Marion Gee II was born in Pocatello, Idaho on July 22. 1933, to William Marion Gee and Helen Young Gee. As a young child he lived in Edmonds Idaho, Rexburg, Idaho and then Blackfoot, Idaho. Bill’s mom ran the Cottage Hotel in Blackfoot and his father did a lot of remodeling on it as well as teach school. The family spent some summers in Driggs and St. Anthony.
About 1940 the family bought a farm in Blackfoot. Bill and Helen tended the livestock and Helen and Marion taught school. The family sold the farm and moved to Pocatello about 1946.
Bill finished his schooling in Pocatello and graduated from Pocatello High School in 1952. He then attended BYU and went on a mission to South Africa from 1954 to 1956. When he returned from his mission he began selling business equipment.
Barbara Jean Lloyd Gee was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on August 30, 1938 to Dean Michael Lloyd and Marchey Ada Murri Lloyd. When she was 5 years old the family bought a farm and moved to Springfield, Idaho.
Barbara attended school in Springfield and Aberdeen, graduating in 1956 from Aberdeen High School. In the fall she attended BYU. During this time her family sold their farm and moved to Pocatello, Idaho. When the school year was over she went back home to Pocatello and worked for Farm Bureau Insurance Co. It was here that Barbara met Bill for the first time. The claims department had purchased a photo copy machine and Bill came to teach the employees how to run it.
Barbara had been serving a stake mission while working and was waiting for a missionary. In the fall of 1959 she and a girlfriend moved to Provo, Utah where she was employed by Seaboard Finance Company as a cashier and bookkeeper. Barbara worked for a year, then decided to go back to BYU and get her teaching degree.
Her money was running low after the first semester, so she transferred to ISU, where she could live at home and go two semesters for the price of one at BYU. While in Pocatello Barbara began going with Bill and on November 17, 1961 they were married in the Idaho Falls Temple.
They have lived in Utah where Bill sold office equipment and then worked for Utah Savings and Loan and Barbara worked for Meadow Gold Dairy as a bookkeeper and receptionist.
In 1964 they moved back to Pocatello. Bill and his brother Tony started an Armored Car service and Barbara again worked at Farm Bureau as a billing clerk. On July 11, 1965 their first child Kaylynn was born so Barbara quit work and became a full time mom.
They bought their first home at 944 So. 4th and moved in the first part of December. On August 24, 1966 Shannon, their second daughter was born. Barbara and Bill rented their home out and moved to Idaho Falls in December as they had purchased the Armored Car Service in Idaho Falls. They later added a parking lot sweeping and striping service to their business.
May 5, 1968 their third daughter Andrea was born and a year later they bought their second home, at 615 Lawndale where they still live. On April 3, 1970 Christopher William was born and two years later a fourth daughter LuJean was born on November 1, 1972.
Bill decided to sell the business and he worked for his brother Tony, then worked for American Potato until their season ended. Bill began selling insurance and during this time he began having eye problems. On August 8, 1976 their second son Jason Michael was born. Bill lost the sight in one eye and when Jason was about 10 months old he began having problems with his other eye.
Barbara went back to school, so she could teach and help support the family. She graduated from ISU in 1983 and began teaching second grade at Lincoln School in Idaho Falls, later first grade at Lincoln and then at Iona.
Bill’s remaining eye sight stabilized and he was able to work as a custodian for the LDS Church. He worked as a custodian about three years and then his remaining eye began having problems so he retired. After teaching 21 years Barbara retired in 2004.
All of their children are now married and they have 10 beautiful grandchildren. They are enjoying retirement, spending time together, and time with their family.
