Elda Rebecca Kerr Wood

Compiled July 1972 from information from Annie Kerr and from an obituary notice.

 

Elda was the ninth child born to Marion Joseph and Ella Rebecca Merrill Kerr.  She was born on May 6, 1902 in Ora, Idaho. She was educated there and attended Ricks Academy at Rexburg, Idaho. She was married to Laurence Earl Wood on June 16, 1925. He died on April 2, 1961. Elda passed away November 1, 1970.

 

They were the parents of two children, Laurence Earl Wood and Nannette Wood Peterson.  Laurence lives in Santa Barbara, California with his wife Juanita. They are owners and managers of the Wood Furniture Store and are very successful. Laurence has a son and daughter by a previous marriage. The son is now serving a mission for the LDS. Church in Brazil. His name is Robert. The daughter, Laurie, lives in American Fork with her mother. She graduated from high school in May 1972 and will attend college this Fall.

 

Nannette Wood Peterson now live s in Bellevue, Washington and works as head office manager of General Motors in Seattle. She has one daughter, Becky, who is married and lives in Joliet, Illinois.

 

Elda taught school and was very active in community affairs. At the time of her death she was active in the LDS Church and was a member of the PTA, the Historical Society Board, Hadas Madrinas Auxiliary of the Easter Seal Society for Crippled Children and Adults, President of the Newcomers Club, a member of the Continuing Gourmet Club, the Los Libros Book Club. She also served as Vice President of the Board of Directors of the Santa Barbara Women's Club. She operated a motel in Santa Barbara.
