L. S. South Died Friday March 28th
Lorenzo Snow South, prominent Evanston businessman and civic leader, died Friday, March 28, 1975 in an Evanston hospital of a heart ailment, at the age of 74.
He was born October 1, 1900 in Randolph, Utah, a son of Samuel R. and Hannah Corless South. He married Ruth Biorn February 2, 1922 in St. Anthony, Idaho. The union was later solemnized the Logan L.D.S. Temple.
Mr. South was engaged in the lumber business most of his adult life, first with his father and later with his sons and sons-in-law. His business took him to Ashton, St. Anthony, and Idaho Falls, Idaho, Manila, Utah, and to Bridger Valley before he moved to Evanston to reside. At the time of his death he was associated with his family in the South and Jones Lumber Co. here.
He was active in the Evanston Chamber of Commerce and participated in civic and community affairs, and was beginning his fourth term as a Uinta County Commissioner. He was a member of the L.D.S. Church and had served in many offices in the various auxiliaries.
Mr. south is survived by his widow, Ruth Biorn South, of Evanston: two sons, Dan Lee South and Burton South of Evanston; five daughters, Mrs. Eugene (Glenna) Jones, Mrs. Robert (Donna) Dickerson, Mrs. Jon (Connie) Lunsford, and Mrs. Gaylon (Jo Anne) Thornock, all of Evanston, and Mrs. Arthur (Gayle) Argyle, of Randolph, Utah; thirty-two grandchildren, and 7 great grandchildren.
Also surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Zelma Schwartz of Boston, Mass., and Mrs. Dorothy Hackworth of St. Anthony, Idaho.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 1 at in the Evanston First Ward Chapel with Bishop Don U. Welling officiating. The respect and esteem which Mr. South enjoyed from Evanston and surrounding communities was reflected in the huge crowd in attendance.
Burial was in the Evanston City Cemetery. |
