Obituary

Mrs. Hannah Corless South, longtime Idaho Falls resident, died Tuesday, January 31, 1956, of a heart attack while eating dinner. She was 79 years old.

A resident of the Idaho Falls area since 1923, Mrs. South was born April 2, 1876, in Randolph, Utah, where she lived for many years. She was married to Samuel Rich South in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple on November 10, 1899. They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary a week before he died in 1949.

After coming to Idaho, the couple established their home and became well-known in the community. Hannah was the mother of Dorothy Hackworth of St. Anthony, Idaho, among her children.

Family Connections

Hannah Corless South was the daughter-in-law of Charles and Elizabeth Taylor Rich South. Through her daughter Dorothy Hackworth (née South) of St. Anthony, Idaho, she is connected to the Hackworth family line documented throughout this site.

Her husband, Samuel Rich South, taught school in Randolph, Utah, for 13 years before the family moved to Idaho Falls in 1923. He later operated a sawmill in Island Park, Idaho. Samuel died in November 1949, just one week after the couple marked their 50th wedding anniversary.
